Course Description
This ABS Consulting course is now certified by the U.S. Coast Guard to satisfy SOLAS training requirement for licensed mariners. When registering for this course, please let us know if you are seeking the Vessel Security Officer (VSO) training certification.
Students that have taken this course between June 9, 2003, and September 30, 2009, may also be eligible to receive retroactive SOLAS credit for required VSO training. Please contact us if you need more information.
Qualify as a Maritime Security Officer
This 3-day course qualifies participants as trained maritime security officers. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Maritime Security Regulations (33 CFR Subchapter H, Parts 101-106) and the International Maritime Organization's International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code imposed requirements for maritime security on certain vessels and port/waterfront facilities that interface with such vessels.
An Update of Our Successful Course Focused on Implementation
The course is an updated version that combines the best of our successful previous maritime security courses for Port and Facility Security Officers (508P) and Company and Ship Security Officers (508S) offered during 2003 and 2004. The course content assumes that attendees have already submitted their maritime security assessments and are now in the implementation phase of their maritime security programs. While the course provides a regulatory overview of maritime security requirements applicable to ship, company, and (port) facility security officers, its main objective is to present state-of-the-art information, techniques, and tools for the ongoing development and implementation of effective and compliant maritime security programs. For participants having a U.S. focus, requirements of the USCG regulations are emphasized and supplemented with specific requirements of the ISPS Code where differences exist.
This Course Can Be Presented on Site to Address Your Specific Needs
This course can be customized to meet your specific needs and presented at your location. Modifications to emphasize the needs of shipping or port personnel can be accomplished, along with incorporating your policies and procedures into the course. When customized, adequate information is presented to allow ship and port personnel to (1) understand the applicable security issues and (2) have an appreciation of the maritime security requirements applicable to their counterparts in other sectors of the industry.
